Parking has always been one of the most difficult things car owners have to do. There have been a pretty vast number of accidents that took place in the event of parking a car. With that being said, it makes good sense if manufacturers try to increase safety level by developing a parking camera which will assist car owners in terms of car parking.
Speaking of car parking camera, car owners will be able to find quite a lot of options available in most cases. However, one recommended option is the parking camera that comes manufactured with dynamic lines. Top class cars usually come manufactured with such a parking camera. However, fortunately, for those whose car may not be in the highest class – which also means the car has no such camera, this kind of car parking cameras are pretty easy to install.
This car parking camera – also known as the Intelligent Parking Sensor System – is a device that consists of a camera, a sensor, a system module and an A/V cable. But there is one thing that car owners will have to keep in their mind. They will not likely have the opportunity to take advantage of such a parking camera unless their car provides a head unit equipped with a monitor and that their car features VSA – which stands for Vehicle Stability Assist – as well.
When the car owners move their gear lever to the R position, they will see the parking space available outside in their car monitor in a matter of seconds. Then, when they move the steering wheel, they will be able to see changing lines. These are the dynamic lines that instruct the car owners – or the drivers – where to drive. This is possible because the car parking camera is connected to the ECU – which stands for Electronic Computer Unit – of the car.
At this point of time, some of you may be asking how it works. Well, the ECU of the car records the steering wheel movement. The parking camera will then use this movement record as a guide to display onto the car monitor for the drivers to see. Yet, another question that may occur is how accurate this device can be. Well, it seems like there is only one way to find out. Of course, testing is absolute since believing without testing is not quite recommended after all.
Testing the Parking Camera
In our test, we use a car that comes from the car manufacturer Honda. You guessed it, it is a CRV. Needless to say, we have to put first everything into place. Then, adjustments are made to the width of both the car and the parking lot.
In this case, two cones are needed. They act as the delimiters of the parking lot. Each of them is put at the right and at the left side of the car. One cone is two meters away from another one. This is adjusted accordingly to the width of the car body. Now that the test parking lot has been created, it is time to pay attention to the camera device itself.
One thing that car owners should pay attention to is the adjustments supported by the camera device. Fortunately, adjusting is easy enough to perform. It is as simple as pushing the menu button and adjusting things accordingly on the car monitor. The monitor will then display a yellow line, a red line and a green line altogether.
The yellow line is the line that instructs a driver where to drive. The red line then is the line that tells the driver how wide the available parking lot is. And as for the green line, it is the line that shows the driver where he or she can park.
Yet, the position on the car where the car parking camera is installed is also very important. This is because, most of the time, the camera is not installed at the middle section of the car body. Instead, it is more often installed a bit right on the rear section of the car body in place of the lamps that usually light the rear plate number. This is when the adjustments performed earlier play a very important role. Yet, there are also 2 LED lamps at each sides of the camera to take the work of the uninstalled rear plate number lamps.
Conclusion
In most cases, drivers are not quite likely to have a hard time following the guides provided by the parking camera. The lines are easy to see thanks to their contrasting color to one another. Yet, there is also another advantage. Car owners can use this car parking camera not only for backward parking but also for parallel parking to make it a lot easier. Last but not least, offered for sale at the price of around $250, this camera is indeed worth consideration.
